Big Business

Big Business is a Business Insider series that dives into the world’s most fascinating industries and the people behind them. Since 2024, I’ve contributed motion design that helps visualize the scale, systems, and stories driving global commerce — blending clean editorial graphics with cinematic energy to make complex industries both clear and compelling.

For the episode How Pistachio Farmers Built a Billion-Dollar Empire During California Droughts, this animation compares pistachio and almond trees, highlighting how only female pistachio trees produce nuts. The tree assets were designed in Illustrator, with a paper cutout style layered with rich textures.

For the episode Inside the Billion-Dollar World of Fake Luxury — From Nikes to Rolexes, this animation illustrates how Amazon uses AI to detect counterfeit listings and share fraudsters’ information with law enforcement. The design of the Amazon AI was inspired by a robotic eye, while the overall animation draws from sci-fi and military-style UI graphics reminiscent of old school Metal Gear Solid.

This animation, from the episode How Toxic Turmeric Ends Up in Your Food, explores the historical uses of turmeric in ancient India and its many applications. The piece features a collage aesthetic, combining photo cutouts with layered textures, and a color palette inspired by the turmeric plant itself.

For the episode How the Ultra-Rich Fly Around the World in $80M Private Jets, this animation contrasts the Qatar Executive private jet experience with that of commercial airlines. I experimented with Midjourney to generate plane turns, clouds, and other visual assets throughout the piece. The color palette was drawn from Qatar Airways’ signature branding.
